MOTION TO APPROVE THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING (MOU) BETWEEN THE CITY AND THE BROWARD TEACHERS UNION LOCAL 1975 (BTU).

SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:
- Covered Members - Full Time and Part Time Certified Educational Professionals (Teachers, Guidance Counselors, Media Specialist, Curriculum Specialists, etc.) (not including Principals, Assistant Principals, and other Administrative Professionals -such as Professional Staff in the Office of Innovative Learning).
Term
The current in-force Collective Bargaining Agreement contained a “wage reopener” for the 2026-2027 School Year. The MOU states the wage increases and 2022 Referendum amounts for the 2026-2027 School Year.
Base Salary Merit Increase
Grandfathered Teachers - $1,500.00 per year
Pay For Performance Teachers -
Highly Effective - $1,875.00
Effective - $1,406.25 per year
Needs Improvement/Unsatisfactory - No increase
Increase Minimum Salary
Increase from $53,500 per year to $55,000 per year (increase amount up to $57,150 per year for new hires with 13+ years of teaching experience).
Increase Maximum Salary
Increase from $84,518.00 per year to $86,018.00.
2022 SNGI Referendum Payments For 2026-27
The Secure the Next Generation Referendum (SNGI) was renewed on August 23, 2022, which secured funding to recruit and retain highly quality teachers and eligible staff, maintain and enhance school safety and maintain and enhance essential programs, such as mental health services. Furthermore, funding is eligible from FY2023-24 through FY2026-27. This is the last year of the 2022 SNGI Referendum Funding. The continuation of the SNGI Payments for future school years will be on the ballot in November, 2026.
This MOU provides compensation supplements for FY2026-27 (Year 4 of the allowable 4 years).
Supplemental payments in the amount of $620.00 for a new teacher up to $15,670.00 for a teacher with 25+ years of experience.
BTU Ratification - The BTU Members ratified the MOU on August 13, 2026 with a vote of 99% in favor (yes) and 1% against (no).
Note - Part Time Members’ Salaries and Increases Will Be Prorated.
