Summary Explanation and Background

SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:

1. The City of Pembroke Pines is partnering with the City of Miramar on the Pembroke Road widening and extension project from Dykes Road to US 27. This Broward Surtax funded project is intended to improve traffic mobility and provide alternative emergency access to US-27 in southwest Broward County.

The project consists of three primary segments:

1.                     Widening of Pembroke Road from Dykes Road to SW 196th Avenue,

2.                     Extension of Pembroke Road from SW 196th Avenue to US-27, and

3.                     Extension of Miramar Parkway from SW 192nd Terrace to Pembroke Road.

2. Following the completion of construction, the City of Pembroke Pines will assume maintenance responsibilities for all infrastructure components located within its municipal boundaries, which include:

Cleaning and maintenance of drainage pipes, culverts, and outfalls

                     Pavement and sidewalk upkeep

                     Maintenance of shared-use paths

                     Swale landscaping and irrigation

3. Joint maintenance of median landscaping and irrigation will be coordinated, between Miramar and Pembroke Pines for the segment between SW 184th Avenue and US-27.

4. Other maintenance responsibilities:

Broward County Traffic Engineering Division: Signalization, signage, pavement markings

Florida Power & Light (FPL): Lighting systems

South Broward Drainage District: Existing drainage culverts

5. Administration recommends the City Commission adopt proposed Resolution 2025-R-26 to affirm the City’s commitment to fund ongoing operations and maintenance for the City’s respective portions of the project.
