SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:
1. Broward College - Institute of Public Safety provides police academy training for all new police recruits within Broward County. The Broward College Police Academy meets all basic training requirements of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission. Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to take the Criminal Justice Standards and Training State Officer Certification Examination. Students must pass the Florida State Officer Certification Examination to qualify for Florida State Law Enforcement Certification, as prescribed in FSS Chapter 943.17(1).
2. Police Department has enrolled nine (9) new police recruits in the 365th Police Academy hosted by Broward College - Institute of Public Safety, which begins on January 29, 2025, and runs through July 11th, 2025.
3. The tuition cost per police recruit is $4,875.00, which includes the $100.00 state exam fee and the Florida Criminal Justice Sourcebook by Lexis Nexis.
4. Moreover, deadline to submit completed registered forms is Sunday, January 12th, 2025. (9) Police recruits are to be registered and Background Verification and
Pre-employment screening documents 2 weeks prior to orientation date which takes place on January 22nd ,2025.
5. On December 5, 2024, the City Manager approved this emergency purchase request.
