Summary Explanation and Background

SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:

1.  The City of Pembroke Pines currently has a Class 7 Community Rating System(CRS) rating which entitles properties in Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHA) to qualify for a discount on flood insurance.  In support of that effort to improve the City's CRS Class Rating, the City of Pembroke Pines has developed a comprehensive outreach program over the years to educate the community concerning matters pertaining to floodplain management and to highlight its importance to the community. This outreach has included input from community stakeholders.

2.  In 2023, the City of Pembroke Pines established a Program for Public Information (PPI) task force, composed of both key stakeholders and key staff members. The PPI is a formal and ongoing program to provide information to City residents related to flood insurance and flood hazards as well as many other topics to promote the health and safety of City residents and property.

3.  The FEMA CRS program requires that a participating community adopt by Resolution the Program for Public Information (PPI).
