SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:
1. The City of Pembroke Pines Police Department utilizes Motorola Solutions APX platform for its P25 radios and accessories. Motorola Solutions is the sole source provider of the APX platform for the Broward County area customers/municipalities.
2. The APX NEXT portable radio is the only NFPA 1802 compliant radio on the market. The three (3) radios will be replacing the radios that the Police Department is currently utilizing.
3. The APX NEXT portable radios will replace outdated radios, which are no longer supported by the manufacturer.
4. On July 4, 2021, Sourcewell entered into Contract # 042021-MOT "Public Safety Communications Technology and Hardware Solutions" with Motorola Solutions to provide equipment, products, or services to Sourcewell and the entities that access Sourcewell's cooperating purchasing contracts.
5. Sourcewell is a State of Minnesota local government agency and service cooperative created under the laws of the State of Minnesota (Minnesota Statutes Section 123A.21) that facilitates a competitive public solicitation and contract award process for the benefit of its 50,000+ members across the United States and Canada. Sourcewell’s solicitation process complies with Minnesota law and policies, and results in cooperative contracting solutions from which Sourcewell’s members procure equipment, products, and services.
6. The Police Department obtained a quote from Motorola Solutions in compliance with the Sourcewell agreement in the amount of $36,574.78.
7. Request Commission to approve the purchase of two (2) Motorola APX Next portable radios, one (1) APX 8500 Dual Head Mobile Radio, programming and accessories for the Police Department from Motorola Solutions, utilizing pricing established by the Sourcewell Contract # 042021- MOT, for a total amount not to exceed $36,574.78, pursuant to Section 35.18(C) of the City's Code of Ordinances.
