Summary Explanation and Background

SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:
1. In collaboration with eighteen (18) eligible law enforcement agencies in Broward County, the Police Department has been allocated $26,934 from the U.S. Department of Justice as its FY2021 Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) share of the $544,330 allocated to the Broward County region. The Justice Assistance Grant funds may be used for legitimate law enforcement projects, as defined by the Bureau of Justice Assistance. The funding allocation is determined by a formula based primarily on the preceding year crime data reported to the F.B.I. and population trends.

2. On July 28th, 2023, Broward County entered a subgrant award agreement with BSO that authorizes BSO to serve as the lead agency in administering the grant on behalf of Broward County, through its Addendum to Subgrant Award Agreement.

3. BSO will monitor implementation, reporting, and payment requests from the participating agencies. A 10% of the City’s award will be deducted by BSO for administrative and management purposes. The resulting net Pembroke Pines allocation will be $24,240.60.

4. The City Commission previously accepted this JAG award on 8/4/2021, which permitted the City to complete and submit an FY21 certification and assurances document to Broward County.

5. There is no required match for this grant. The grant period commenced on October 1st, 2020, and has been extended through September 30th, 2025.
