[ADDENDUM ITEM ADD-3]: MOTION TO APPROVE THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN FOR THE PEMBROKE PINES CHARTER MIDDLE SCHOOLS.

Summary Explanation and Background

SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:

1. Traditionally, as part of the Charter Schools' yearly audit from district sponsors School Board of Broward County, evidence must be provided of the governing board's (i.e. City Commission) approval of the School Improvement Plan ("SIP"). The Parent Advisory Boards must approve the SIP if there are changes to the District Code.

2. Since becoming high performing charter schools, the Pembroke Pines Charters Schools are not required to complete a SIP plan. However, as good practice, the schools continue to complete the SIP plan for all grade levels.

3. The Pembroke Pines Charter Middle Schools (MSID# 5081) has been identified by the FLDOE as an ATSI (Additional Targeted Support for Improvement) school based upon 21-22 student data. This means one of our ESSA subgroups (SWD) has fallen below the Federal Index Standard of 41% proficiency. According to Section 1001.42(18), Florida Statutes, 5081 must present a 23-24 School Improvement Plan (SIP) to stakeholders and submit to FLDOE after having been approved by the School Advisory Board.

4. The Charter Elementary/Middle School Advisory Board met and approved the Charter Middle 2023-2024 School Improvement Plan on December 5, 2023. (See attached Ex. 1- 5081 SIP and Ex. 2 for Meeting Summary)

5. The deadline for the SIP plan to be submitted was November 30th, The Advisory Board did not have a quorum for their November meeting, so they were unable to approve until the December 5th meeting. The School has been provided an extension to submit the governing board approval.

6. Therefore, Staff recommend City Commission approve the 2023-2024 School Improvement Plan for the Pembroke Pines Charter Middle Schools.
