PROPOSED RESOLUTION NO. 2025-R-07 IS A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF PEMBROKE PINES, FLORIDA, RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING BROWARD COUNTY TO INSTALL A CROSSWALK ON NW 184TH AVENUE IN THE VICINITY OF NW 9TH STREET AND JOHNSON STREET, THAT INCLUDES 178TH AVENUE AS A POINT OF REFERENCE; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS, PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
Summary Explanation and Background
SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:
1. The City of Pembroke Pines is proud of its numerous walkable communities where residents and visitors can get out of their cars and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.
2. Members of certain religious communities, including members of the Chabad of Pembroke Pines, located on Johnson Street, routinely walk to and from their places of worship as a part of their religious traditions.
3. Residents of the Silver Lakes community and members of the Chabad have publicly raised concerns about the relative safety of crossing NW 184th Avenue because of the pace and flow of traffic.
4. A crosswalk across NW 184th Avenue in the vicinity of Johnson Street and NW 9th Street will serve to preserve and protect the lives of residents and visitors by providing a certain measure of safety to cross the avenue.
5. Broward County maintains the traffic signalization in the surrounding area.
6. The City of Pembroke Pines City Commission finds that the approval of this Resolution is in the best interest of the health, safety, and welfare of the residents, visitors and businesses of the City of Pembroke Pines, and serves a municipal and public purpose.
