MOTION TO APPROVE THE FACILITY USE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF PEMBROKE PINES AND BRAXTON COLLEGE INC.

SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:
1. Braxton College Inc (“Braxton”) is a private academic institution of higher education that provides paramedic training as part of its educational programs related to allied health, emergency medical services, and fire service professions (collectively, the “Program”) .
2. The City owns, operates, and maintains the fire training facility located at 1101 SW 208 Avenue, Pembroke Pines, FL 33029 within the City of Pembroke Pines (“Facility”).
3. Braxton would like to utilize the Facility as a campus in order to provide the Program to Pembroke Pines Firefighters enrolled as students in one of its course offerings.
4. Firefighters are contractually required to obtain their Paramedic certification within three (3) years of hire. This agreement will provide them with the convenience of completing the required paramedical training onsite at our facility.
5. Braxton College offers the lowest tuition among private colleges in the area and has maintained the highest first-attempt pass rate on the Paramedic National Exam.
6. Funding for classes taken through Braxton College or any other educational institution has already been established in accordance with the tuition reimbursement provisions outlined in the CBA.
7. The City desires to enter into a written agreement with Braxton to allow Braxton to use the Facility as a campus to train and educate up to twenty-five (25) students per semester who are enrolled in LICENSEE’s Program, including students selected by City for the purpose of participating in Braxton’s paramedic training program.
