MOTION TO ACCEPT THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE CITY OF PEMBROKE PINES AND BROWARD COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE (BSO), FOR THE CITY’S ACCEPTANCE OF THE FY 2022 U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE/JUSTICE ASSISTANCE GRANT (JAG) AWARD IN THE AMOUNT OF $24,481. BSO WILL PROVIDE THE ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES REQUIRED OF BROWARD COUNTY AND FACILITATE COMPLIANCE WITH THE REQUIRED CONDITIONS OF THE GRANT.

SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:
1. In collaboration with eighteen (18) eligible law enforcement agencies in Broward County, the Police Department has been allocated $24,481 from the U.S. Department of Justice as its FY2022 Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) share of the $546,715 allocated to the Broward County region. The Justice Assistance Grant funds may be used for any legitimate law enforcement projects, as defined by the Bureau of Justice Assistance. The funding allocation is determined by a formula that is based primarily upon the preceding year crime data reported to the F.B.I. and population trends.
2. The 18 participating agencies, which includes the City of Pembroke Pines Police Department, formed a working committee and developed a course of action to achieve the goals and objectives of the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant / JAG Program, and have selected Broward County to receive the grant funds, administer the program and serve as the fiscal agent for the disbursement of all funds received for the JAG Program.
3. On December 14, 2022, the City Commission approved a motion to accept the memorandum of understanding and subaward agreement between the City of Pembroke Pines and Broward County for the City’s acceptance of the FY 22 U.S. Department of Justice/Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Award in the amount of $24,481.
