Summary Explanation and Background

SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:
1. Due to nearby construction activities along Pines Boulevard, roadways within Pines Village are being utilized as alternative routes and are currently experiencing increased traffic volumes and speeding concerns.

2. In response to resident concerns, the City is proposing the temporary installation of two (2) sets of speed cushions on SW 6th Street at the following locations:
? - Between SW 69th Way and SW 69th Terrace.
? - Between SW 71st Terrace and SW 71st Avenue.

3. A traffic calming study for the area is currently being conducted. The temporary speed cushions are intended to serve as an interim traffic calming measure while the study is completed and evaluated. Additional traffic calming measures, including traffic circles and road diets, may be considered upon completion of the study.

4. Public Services staff coordinated outreach efforts to affected residents through direct communication and distribution of door hangers to homes located along the affected roadway segments. Approximately nine (9) homes are directly impacted by the proposed speed cushion locations. Residents were provided with contact information and a ten (10) day period to submit comments or concerns regarding the proposed installation.

5. In addition to direct outreach, the City created an online resident survey to gather community feedback regarding the proposed traffic calming improvements. Resident comments and concerns received through outreach efforts and survey responses have been compiled and reviewed by staff.
