SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:
1. The Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Roads for Economic Vitality (REV) program provides funding for small local transportation projects that improve safety and mobility for all transportation users in Broward County. The City of Pembroke Pines seeks to submit an application for funding from Broward MPO Cycle 1 for a road improvement project along Pembroke Road, from Flamingo Road to Hiatus Road. This project will provide a 4-foot-wide bike lane with a 2-foot buffer. In addition, a portion of the southbound lanes on Hiatus Road will be widened to accommodate two left-turn lanes onto Pembroke Road. Key project elements include road widening, minor pavement reconstruction, new signage and pavement markings, and the construction of new curb ramps to comply with ADA requirements.
2. This project application will be led by the City of Pembroke Pines, with the City of Miramar serving as a co-applicant. The Broward MPO requires a resolution of support from both municipalities. The City of Miramar previously passed a motion supporting this project during their July 8, 2026 commission meeting; a resolution of support from the City of Pembroke Pines is now needed to proceed with the application review process.
