DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION TO DIRECT CITY ADMINISTRATION TO WORK WITH THE BROWARD COUNTY LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION AND LOBBYISTS IN THE UPCOMING 2026 LEGISLATIVE SESSION FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 2026-27 LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES & APPROPRIATION REQUESTS.
Summary Explanation and Background
SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:
1. Administration has identified various legislative priorities and critical need projects. Administration would like to request our lobbyists to work with state legislators to address our legislative priorities in the upcoming 2026 Legislative session.
2. Below are the proposed legislative priorities and critical need projects:
A. Continue the efforts to update Florida Statute 1002.33 Section (10)(d) to provide a legacy preference for alumni of the Charter Schools. See attached Exhibit 1- 2022-169 legal memorandum for further details.
B. Continue the efforts to update Florida Statutes to address the removal by Utility Service Providers of obsolete or out-of-service utility hardware and other infrastructure. See attached Exhibit 2- Resolution No. 3838 for further details.
C. Senator Howard C. Forman Human Services Campus Road Improvements: Total Project $6,300,000 - Phase 1 $2,000,000 - Requesting $800,000 (60% City Match)
1. Resurface and widen roads
2. Install multiple pedestrian / bike path along Poinciana Drive
3. Install sidewalks throughout campus grounds
3. Request City Commission approval to seek approval/funding with the assistance from our lobbyists for the above referenced legislative priorities/appropriation requests and any other priorities established the City Commission for the 2026 Legislative Session impacting the 2026-2027 fiscal year.
