Summary Explanation and Background

 

SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:

1. On September 17th, 2024, the Miami-Dade County Mayor recommended the Opa-Locka West Airport site as the ideal location to build a Solid Waste Campus that includes an incinerator. This site borders the City of Miramar and will potentially impact the Southwest section of Broward County, including the City of Pembroke Pines.

 

2. The City of Miramar has been in the forefront opposing the referenced Solid Waste Campus site location.

 

3. On October 3, 2024, the City received the attached letter sent on behalf of the City of Miramar Mayor Messam requesting that the City of Pembroke Pines contribute $100,000 towards the expected costs of the Solid Waste Campus Opposition Campaign.
