Summary Explanation and Background

 

SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:

1. At the City Commission Meeting on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, Mayor Ortis, speaking on New Business, made a motion, which was seconded by Commissioner Siple, to name the new City Center Complex after City Manager Charles F. Dodge.

 

2. Charles F. Dodge was hired by the City of Pembroke Pines (the “City”) in 1975 to serve as the City’s first Community Services Director. As Community Services Director, Mr. Dodge was instrumental in developing Broward County’s first center to assess and to provide social services specifically for senior citizens.

 

3. Mr. Dodge was promoted through the ranks of City government, serving as the City’s Director of Code Enforcement, City Clerk, Assistant City Manager, and Acting City Manager.

 

4. In 1989, Mr. Dodge was appointed by the City Commission to serve as City Manager.

 

5. The City Commission of the City of Pembroke Pines, in accordance with Section 100.02 of the City’s Code of Ordinances, upon adoption of this resolution, would name the City’s City Center complex “Charles F. Dodge City Center” after City Manager Charles F. Dodge.
