Summary Explanation and Background

 

SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:

 

1.      In accordance with Section 32.031 of the City’s Code of Ordinances, the City’s Board of Adjustment (“BOA”) considered requests for variances on residential property.

2.     Section 32.037 of the City Code provides for appeals of BOA decisions to be heard by the City Commission.

3.     The City Commission seeks to amend its agenda order to consider BOA appeals towards the beginning of its meetings in order to expedite the consideration of variance requests by City residents.

4.       The City Commission seeks to further amend the order of its agenda in an effort to align with the City Commission’s custom and practice for regular commission meetings.

5.     The City Commission finds that amending the commission agenda to consider appeals from the Board of Adjustment immediately following “Items at the Request of the Public” is in the best interests of the citizens and residents of Pembroke Pines.

6.      Chapter 30, entitled “City Commission,” of the City of Pembroke Pines Code of Ordinances, is amended by specifically amending Section 30.15, entitled “Agenda” to read as follows:

Sec. 30.15  AGENDA.

     (A)   Agenda. The agenda of the City Commission shall be as follows:

                           (1)   Meeting called to order;

                           (2)   Roll call;

                           (3)   Pledge of allegiance;

    (4)    Presentations;

(5)                Announcement of Items to be Pulled from Agenda;

(6)                Items at the Request of the Public;

(7)                Appeals of Board of Adjustment Decisions;

(8)                Announcement of Board and Committee Appointments;

(9)               Consent agenda;

(10)          Ordinances and Resolutions;

(11)             Regular agenda;

(12)           Reports of League Representatives;

(13)            Reports of the City Manager and City Attorney;

(14)            Commission items;

(15)            Old business;

(16)             Adjourn
