PROPOSED RESOLUTION 2018-R-43 IS A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF PEMBROKE PINES, FLORIDA, IMPLEMENTING ORDINANCE NO. 1914 BY ADDING “NO THRU-TRUCK” SIGNS ON NORTHWEST 208TH AVENUE FROM PINES BOULEVARD TO JOHNSON STREET; AUTHORIZING ALL NECESSARY ACTIONS TO IMPLEMENT THE INTENT OF THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

 

 

Summary Explanation and Background

 

SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:

 

1.                     At the Commission Meeting on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, Commissioner Castillo introduced an item for discussion and possible motion to direct Administration to study and recommend No Through Truck signs for 208th Avenue in Chapel Trail to further help move traffic during school times.  A motion was made by Commissioner Siple, seconded by Commissioner Castillo, to defer the item to have a resolution drafted by the City Attorney and brought back before Commission.

 

2.                      The City Commission of the City of Pembroke Pines, Florida finds that the use of Trucks on NW 208th Avenue from Pines Boulevard to Johnson Street can cause hazardous conditions for other vehicles, drivers and pedestrians.

 

3.                     Section 71.05 of the City Code, entitled “Restrictions on Truck Use of Streets” establishes the regulation and prohibition of thru-truck traffic on certain streets and roads within the City.

 

4.                      Section 71.05(C) of the City Code, entitled “Establishment of Zones” provides authorization to the City Commission to designate to specific right-of-ways on which thru-truck traffic shall be prohibited.

 

5.                      The City Commission deems it to be in the best interests of the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens and residents of the City to install “No Thru-Truck” signs on NW 208th Avenue from Pines Boulevard to Johnson Street.
