MOTION TO RATIFY THE CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL OF THE AGREEMENT WITH THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF STATE DIVISION OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS FOR A GENERAL SUPPORT GRANT TO BUILD ON AN ESTABLISHED PROGRAM OF YEAR-ROUND ARTS AND CULTURAL EVENTS AND ARTS EDUCATION AT THE FRANK C. ORTIS ART GALLERY AND EXHIBITION HALL "THE FRANK" IN THE AMOUNT OF $45,180.

Summary Explanation and Background

SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:

1. The Florida Department of State Division of Cultural Affairs has awarded a grant for fiscal year 2020 to the City of Pembroke Pines to build on our established program of year-round arts and cultural events and an arts-centric community engagement platform at the Charles F. Dodge City Center Cultural Arts Campus in the amount of $45,180.

2. The purpose of the grant is to support programming for exhibitions and workshops at The Frank.  Events must be multi-disciplinary events that foster experimentation and creativity, invite collaboration and engagement, and inspire audiences to visit The Frank often.

3.  The Recreation and Cultural Arts Department received notice of the award in March of 2019 but had to wait for Governor DeSantis to sign the budget before the State Division of Cultural Affairs could issue grant agreements.  The governor signed the budget on June 21st which was after the last Commission meeting.  The State wanted the grant agreement signed and returned prior to August 1st.  Since the Commission was not scheduled to meet again until August 7th, the Department requested the City Manager sign the agreement prior to obtaining the City Commission approval.

4. Request the Commission ratify the City Manager's approval of the agreement between the State of Florida Department of State Division of Cultural Affairs and The City of Pembroke Pines for a general support grant award in the amount of $45,180.
