MOTION TO APPROVE THE SOLE SOURCE PURCHASE OF (6) MOTOROLA APX8000 ALL BAND PORTABLE RADIOS AND RELATED ACCESSORIES FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT FROM MOTOROLA SOLUTIONS, UTILIZING BROWARD SHERIFFS OFFICE (BSO) MASTER AGREEMENT - MOTOROLA CONTRACT NO.: 12-29077/JHJ., FOR A TOTAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $41,889 UTILIZING URBAN AREA SECURITY INITIATIVE (UASI) GRANT FUNDS AND LOCAL FUNDS, PURSUANT TO SECTIONS 35.18(C)(3) AND 35.18(C)(5) OF THE CITY'S PROCUREMENT CODE
Summary Explanation and Background
SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:
1. The Fire Department has a $38,997 grant from UASI (Urban Area Security Initiative) and would like to use the funds towards the purchase of six (6) Motorola APX8000 All Band Portable Radios and related accessories, the remaining funds for the purchase of the radios will be provided from the Fire Department's budget.
2. The City of Pembroke Pines utilizes Broward County's trunked radio system. Motorola is the sole manufacturer for the 800MHZ radios for the Broward County area customers/municipalities, using Broward County's trunked system.
3. The City has received a sole source letter from Motorola Solutions stating that the equipment is "available only through Motorola direct channel sales group or the Authorized Manufacturers' Representative for Motorola in Broward County. No other distribution channel is authorized to distribute this equipment."
4. The City has obtained pricing from Motorola Solutions utilizing the current BSO (Broward County Sheriff's Office) Master Agreement - Motorola Contract No.: 12-29077/JHJ. for this purchase.
5. Pursuant to Section 35.18(C)(3) of the City's Procurement Code: City standard, single-source and sole-source commodities or services are exempt from the competitive bid and competitive proposal requirement."
