MOTION TO APPROVE ENTERING INTO A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE CITY OF PEMBROKE PINES/SOUTHWEST FOCAL POINT SENIOR CENTER AND THE AREAWIDE COUNCIL ON AGING OF BROWARD COUNTY, INC.  FOR THE EMERGENCY HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EHEAP) CONTRACT JP119-10-2020 FOR THE PERIOD OF OCTOBER 1, 2019 TO SEPTEMBER 30, 2020 IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $21,955.24.

 

Summary Explanation and Background

 

SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:

1.  The current Contract JP118-10-2019 was approved at the Commission Meeting of September 27, 2018 with Agenda Item #18-1234 for a total amount of $20,927.82.  Amendment 001 to Contract JP118-10-2919 was received for an additional amount of $16,632, Amendment 001 was approved at the Commission Meeting of August 7, 2019 with Agenda #19-0877.  This contract will expire September 30, 2019.

 

2.  The EHEAP Contract provides home energy assistance aid to elders in the event of a home energy heating or cooling emergency.  It is designed to assist low-income households with at least one member age 60 or older and experiencing a heating or cooling emergency.  Eligible household may receive one crisis assistance benefit up to a maximum of $600.00 in the cooling season and one benefit in the heating season.

 

3.  The funds received under the EHEAP Contract JP119-10-2020 for a total amount of $21,955.24 is distributed as follows:

4.  Requesting Commission approval to continue the EHEAP Services to our senior community.
