MOTION TO ADOPT PROPOSED RESOLUTION 2019-R-44.
PROPOSED RESOLUTION 2019-R-44 IS A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF PEMBROKE PINES, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE SIGNING AND SUBMISSION OF A GRANT APPLICATION AND SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS AND ASSURANCES TO THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY (“FDEO”); AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF THE GRANT AGREEMENT, THE EXPENDITURE OF GRANT FUNDS FOR THE EXPANSION OF SHERIDAN STREET FROM N.W. 196TH AVENUE WEST TO U.S. 27, AND DIRECTING THE APPROPRIATE CITY OFFICIALS TO TAKE ANY AND ALL ACTION NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE INTENT OF THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
Summary Explanation and Background
SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:
1. The City of Pembroke Pines has the authority to apply for and accept grant awards made by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (“FDEO”).
2. City administration desires to submit a grant application to the FDEO Florida Job Growth Grant Fund, for the purpose of funding improvements to Sheridan Street within the City of Pembroke Pines from N.W. 196th Avenue west to U.S. 27.
3. The City proposes to utilize this grant to widen Sheridan Street in order to provide greater access to the existing commercial (industrial) and vacant parcels along the Sheridan Street right-of-way, and, in turn, will promote economic opportunity and job growth by improving public infrastructure and business opportunities in the Sheridan Street corridor.
4. New industrial projects are being developed along the Sheridan Street corridor including but not limited to the South Florida Distribution Center (FKA Women's Prison) and expansion of the Sheridan Palms Business Park.
