MOTION TO APPROVE THE MILLING AND RESURFACING PROJECT OF SW 196 FROM SHERIDAN TO STIRLING PROPOSAL BY WEEKLEY ASPHALT PAVING, INC. UTILIZING THE PRICING FROM ESTABLISHED BY THE CITY OF DEERFIELD BEACH INVITATION TO BID (ITB) #2018-19/03 FOR A TOTAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $355,499.90 PURSUANT TO SECTION 35.18(C)(5) OF THE CITY’S CODE OF ORDINANCES.
Summary Explanation and Background
SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:
1. The City’s Engineering Division intends to mill and resurface SW 196th Avenue from Sheridan St. to Stirling Rd.
2. The roadway surface within the above noted limits has degraded at a very rapid pace due to the recent construction and heavy truck traffic from the industrial areas bordering this roadway.
3. The purpose of this construction is to restore and improve the driving surface before the degradation is promulgated to the base layer of the roadway. If base layer degradation occurs, costly repairs of this layer will be required and roadway closures will be needed during the repair.
4. On January 15, 2019, the City of Deerfield Beach passed and adopted a Resolution approving the 2019 Citywide Street Resurfacing with Weekley Asphalt Paving, Inc.
5. Pursuant to Section 35.18(C)(5) of the City’s Code of Ordinances, "Commodities or services that are the subject of contracts with the state its political subdivisions or other governmental entities including the United States Government, are exempt from the competitive procurement process.”
6. Weekley Asphalt Paving, Inc. will complete this project within 60 calendar days.
7. Weekley Asphalt Paving, Inc. has provided a quote for for Milling and Resurfacing of SW 196th Avenue from Sheridan Street to Stirling Road for a total amount of $355,499.90.
