MOTION TO AUTHORIZE THE PEMBROKE PINES CHARTER SCHOOLS APPROVAL OF THE REVISED 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR MOVING THE EARLY RELEASE DAY SCHEDULED FEBRUARY 20, 2020 TO FEBRUARY 14, 2020 IN ALIGNMENT WITH THE SCHOOL BOARD OF BROWARD COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:
1. On October 15, 2019 , the School Board of Broward County (SBBC) approved a revision to the Broward County Public School 2019-2020 school year calendar to move the early release day scheduled for Thursday, February 20, 2020 to Friday, February 14, 2020. The school calendar revision was approved in an effort to support the City of Parkland community and the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School (MSD) commemorative activities taking place on February 14, 2020, the two-year anniversary of the MSD tragedy.
2. The SBBC notifed the Pembroke Pines Charter School administration of the aforementioned school calendar revision on November 13, 2020. School administration was asked to complete an acknowledgement form indicating whether or not the Pembroke Pines Charter Schools would implement the new early release day of February 14, 2020 or keep the early release day of February 20, 2020 (see attached Exhibit 1- Revision to to 2019/20 School Year Calendar Acknowledgement Form). The completed acknowledgement form must be approved by the school governing board and is due to the SBBC by January 15, 2020.
3. School administration has opted to implement the new early release day of February 14, 2020 at all City of Pembroke Pines Charter Schools. Stakeholders will be informed through the following communication tools:
a) Parent Link System
b) Systemwide School Website
c) Parent Letter sent through JupiterEd software
d) School morning announcements
