Summary Explanation and Background

SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:

On November 13, 2019, a motion was made to defer Proposed Resolution 2019-R-48.

Revised Proposed Resolution 2019-R-48 will go before Commission January 15, 2020.

1. On October 2, 2019, Commissioner Siple made a motion for discussion and possible action on City Attorney Memo No. 2019-193 regarding vaping products and sales.

2. The City Commission, at the October 16, 2019 meeting voted to have the City Attorney’s Office to draft a Resolution Urging the Governor and Members of the Legislature to Enact a Temporary Ban on the Sales of Vaping Products, Increase the Minimum Legal Age to Purchase Vaping Products from 18 to 21, and to Declare a Public Health Emergency in the State of Florida Related to the Use of Vaping Products.

3. The City Commission, at the October 16, 2019 meeting passed on First Reading, Proposed Ordinance 2019-20, raising the age to purchase electronic nicotine dispensing products from 18 to 21 in the City.

4. Administration recommends adopting Proposed Resolution 2019-R-48.
