Summary Explanation and Background

 

SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:

 

 

1.                     The City Commission has determined that it is in the best interest of the City for the qualified electors of the City to determine whether the City should continue its red light camera enforcement program.

 

2.                     Should the referendum be approved at the Referendum Election, then, effective upon the expiration of the current term of the City’s contract with its red light enforcement program contractor in July, 2022, the City will terminate its red light camera enforcement program.

 

3.                      A Referendum Election shall be held on the 18th day of August, 2020, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. for the purpose of submitting to the qualified electors of the City of Pembroke Pines, Florida, the question whether the City should terminate its red light camera enforcement program. The places of voting for the Referendum Election shall be the same as those places designated for general municipal elections held in the City.

 

4. The Ballot Title shall be as follows:

                                          WHETHER THE CITY SHOULD TERMINATE ITS RED LIGHT CAMERA ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM

 

5. The following question shall be placed on the ballot for consideration by the qualified electors of the City of Pembroke Pines, Florida, at the August 18, 2020, Primary Election and Special Municipal Election in Broward County, Florida. The election ballot question shall read as follows:

SHALL THE CITY OF PEMBROKE PINES TERMINATE ITS RED LIGHT CAMERA ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM?
