Summary Explanation and Background

SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:
1. The Broward County Mobility Advancement Program has requested that the City adopt a resolution expressing support for the Rehabilitation and Maintenance (R&M) project being submitted for Cycle 1 funding(FY19/20) in the 30-year, one percent surtax for transportation approved November 2018. The resolution will notify the County and Oversight Board that this project is both warranted and wanted. A $27,200,000 Citywide resurfacing project was the City’s original project submittal for funding. Broward County is only funding projects up to $3,000,000 each in Cycle 1.

2. This project is important as it has the potential for both job creation and local business participation. The project includes Johnson Street resurfacing including ADA improvements to sidewalks between NW 196th Avenue and NW 208th Avenue, NW 202nd Avenue resurfacing including ADA improvements to sidewalks, between Pines Boulevard and Johnson Street. It will add ADA compliant curb ramps at 15 locations where none currently exist or are substandard.

3. This resolution is required to establish funding eligibility. The amount being requested is $483,380.

4. Administration is requesting for the City Commission to deem it to be in the best interest of the citizens and residents of the City of Pembroke Pines to express support for this R&M project submitted for Cycle 1 funding.
