MOTION TO ADOPT PROPOSED RESOLUTION 2020-R-41.
PROPOSED RESOLUTION 2020-R-41 IS A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF PEMBROKE PINES, FLORIDA, NAMING ONE OF THE FIELDS AT THE PEMBROKE SHORES PARK AFTER MAX MARRERO, IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 100.02 OF THE CITY OF PEMBROKE PINES CODE OF ORDINANCES; RECOGNIZING MR. MARRERO’S CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE CITY OF PEMBROKE PINES; DIRECTING THE APPROPRIATE CITY OFFICIALS TO TAKE ANY AND ALL ACTION NECESSARY TO EFFECTUATE THE INTENT OF THIS RESOLUTION; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:
1. On September 3, 2020, Vice Mayor Iris A. Siple introduced and item before Commission for discussion and possible action to name one of the ball fields at Pembroke Shores Park in honor of Coach Max Marrero.
2. Max Marrero, a baseball coach and enthusiast, passed away on May 30, 2020.
3. Mr. Marrero began coaching baseball at Pasadena Lakes Optimist in 1989 and continued to coach until 2003.
4. In his role as coach, he served in many leadership positions including baseball commissioner, uniform manager, on the board of directors, and two terms as President of the Pasadena Lakes Optimist.
5. Mr. Marrero spent most of his time practicing with his team, running free coaching clinics for new coaches, or helping out in any way he could.
6. Mr. Marrero coached teams at the Fort Lauderdale Christian and Hollywood Christian Schools in which he took many young men to showcase tournaments where there were College recruiters present.
7. Mr. Marrero assisted young men on his baseball teams to grow and encouraged them to attain a college education.
