SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:
1. On May 20, 2020 Commissioner Schwartz introduced an item for discussion and possible action to adopt the Anti-Defamation League Resolution regarding COVID-19.
2. On June 3, 2020 City of Pembroke Pines City Commission adopted Proposed Resolution 2020-R-19, Enactment No. 3768, denouncing Anti-Semitism, Anti-Asian Bigotry, And All Hateful Speech, Violent Action And The Spread Of Misinformation Related To Covid-19; joining other Cities, Counties And States across the country in affirming its commitment to the safety and well-being of all community members; continuing its efforts to protect residents, targets and victims of hate; pledging to support the rights of all people; urging residents to join the City of Pembroke Pines in calling attention to these harms and denounce hate; providing for conflicts; providing for severability; and providing for an effective date.
3. On February 3, 2021, Commissioner Castillo introduced an item to discuss and take possible action to adopt a model resolution prepared by the Anti-Defamation League condemning hate and extremism.
4. At the direction of the Commission on February 3, 2021, Proposed Resolution 2021-R-04 was drafted for adoption on the February 17, 2021 Commission Agenda to reaffirm its ongoing commitment to cultivate an inclusive, safe and just society and culture.
