SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:

 

At the Commission Meeting of May 6, 2020, a motion was made by Commissioner Schwartz, seconded by Commissioner Good, Jr., to approve having Vice Mayor Siple continue her role as Vice Mayor now through September 30, 2020. Then District 2 would be Vice Mayor from October 1, 2020 through the first meeting of April 2021. Then District 1 would automatically become the Vice Mayor at the first meeting in April 2021.  Resetting the rotation would be appropriate starting in 2021. The motion carried by the following vote:

1.  According to Section 3.06 ("Vice Mayor") of the Code of Ordinances, the City Commission, at the first regularly scheduled meeting in April of each year, shall elect, by majority vote, the Vice Mayor.

 

2.  April 7, 2021 is the first regularly scheduled meeting in April.

 

3.  On June 17, 2009, Commission adopted Ordinance No. 1647, which amended Chapter 30.01 of the Code of Ordinances to provide for City Commission's protocols and processes for the selection of the Vice Mayor on an annual basis, as follows:

 

a.  The Vice-Mayor shall be selected in accordance with the Charter of the city and shall be a member of the City Commission who has not just recently served as the Vice-Mayor or the Vice-Mayor Designate, where possible.

 

b.  To the extent possible that the members of the City Commission deem it appropriate, the regular order of nominating a member of the City Commission to serve as Vice Mayor is presumed to be as follows:
