Summary Explanation and Background

SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:

1.  The Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) is a component of the U.S. Department of Justice responsible for advancing the practice of community policing across law enforcement agencies nationwide through grant resources.

2.  The FY 2021 Law Enforcement Mental Health and Wellness Act (LEMHWA) solicitation is a competitive federal grant program through the COPS Office to improve the delivery of and access to mental health and wellness services for law enforcement officers through the implementation of peer support, training, family resources, suicide prevention, and other practices for wellness programs.

3.  The City made an application to the LEMHWA program, and was awarded a federal grant in the amount of $110,000 under a proposal that would entail the creation of a Peer Support Program and procurement of a digital wellness application for the police department.

5.  The grant award period will be for 24 months, beginning September 1, 2021 and ending August 31, 2023.
