Title
MOTION TO APPROVE THE FIRST AMENDMENT TO THE AGREEMENT WITH BROWARD COUNTY FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF BUS SHELTERS IN THE CITY OF PEMBROKE PINES.
Summary Explanation and Background
SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:
1. The City Commission at its August 17, 2011 meeting approved the existing bus shelter maintenance agreement with Broward County.
2. Broward County is proposing to install 32 bus shelters in the City of Pembroke Pines. The first amendment acknowledges the addition of these new locations as part of the agreement. All terms of the original agreement will continue.
3. As part of the terms of the original agreement, the City would be responsible for general maintenance of the sites which include maintenance to the concrete slab (pad), service to and replacement of the trash receptacle(s) as needed, and maintenance of the bus shelter and other amenities commonly associated with the shelters.
4. The proposed new bus shelters are being installed by Broward County as part of the surtax program. Surtax funded projects can be found at: https://www.broward.org/PennyForTransportation/Projects/Pages/BCTProjects.aspx
5. Currently the City's bus bench vendor, Martin-Gold Coast maintains the existing bus shelters in the City of Pembroke Pines. Should this item be approved by the Commission, the City will need to amend the current agreement with the vendor to outline the expanded maintenance responsibilities. Staff is proposing to place a revised agreement with Martin-Gold Coast on the agenda at the second meeting in September and is currently in negotiations on amendment. Currently, the maintenance costs are offset by advertising revenue generated by the City's vendor and regardless of an increase in shelters, the City does not anticipate additional costs for maintenance, just reduced revenue from the vendor.
6. Administration recommends approving the first amendment to the agreement with Broward County for the maintenance of bus shelters in the City of Pembroke Pines.
