PROPOSED ORDINANCE 2023-04 IS AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PEMBROKE PINES, FLORIDA, CHANGING THE DATES OF THE CITY'S 2024 REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION FROM MARCH 12, 2024 TO MARCH 19, 2024 IN ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 101.75, F.S.; PROVIDING FOR A QUALIFYING PERIOD FOR THE MARCH 19, 2024 REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

 

 

 

Summary Explanation and Background

 

SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:

1.                     The 2024 Florida Presidential Preference Primary is scheduled to be held on March 19, 2024.

2.                     Pursuant to Section 3.02 of the City Charter, the City's 2024 regular election is scheduled to be held on March 12, 2024.

3.                     Section 101.75, F.S., allows the City Commission, by ordinance, to move the date of the City's election to a date concurrent with any statewide or countywide election.

4.                     The City Commission finds that changing the date of the City's March 2024 election to March 19, 2024 to coincide with the Presidential Preference Primary, will result in a significant cost savings to the City.

5.                     The City Commission finds that changing the date of the City's March 2024 election to March 19, 2024 to coincide with the Presidential Preference Primary, pursuant to Section 101.75, F.S., is in the best interests of the citizens and residents of the City.
