(2) PROMPTLY REQUEST A CITY COMMISSION WORKSHOP IN ORDER TO OPENLY DISCUSS THE MATTER PUBLICLY ONCE THE SCHOOL DISTRICT PUBLICLY PROVIDES ACTUAL DETAILS OF THEIR FUTURE PLANS TO CLOSE SCHOOLS SERVING THE CITY.

SUMMARY EXPLANATION AND BACKGROUND:
1. It has recently come to the attention of the Mayor and City Commission and the citizens and residents of the City of Pembroke Pines (the ‘City’) that the Broward County School District (the ‘School Board’) is considering the closure of certain public schools within the City and elsewhere in Broward County due to reduced student population at public schools, and other publicly stated reasons.
2. The Mayor and City Commission, as elected policy makers, has a significant interest in addressing potential school closures in the City and the serious known and unknown impacts of such decisions by the School Board. The School Board has scheduled a community meeting on 5/7/2024 at Flanagan High. Details of specific schools being closed has not been shared with the City.
